A source close to Prince Harry believes there is a lack of trust between the Royal Family and the Duke of Sussex, following his interview with the BBC in America earlier this month. The insider has explained how the Duke’s actions have “taken its toll” on the relationship.

The source bluntly revealed to Hello! Magazine “There is zero trust,” adding “The family feel that private conversations with Harry are not possible”. The Duke of Sussex has told the news outlet he “would love a reconciliation” with the Royal Family, in an emotional interview in which he said he said he was “devastated” at losing a legal challenge with the Home Office over the levels of security him and his family are entitled to when in the UK.

Buckingham Palace released a rare statement after the interview: “All of these issues have been examined repeatedly and meticulously by the courts, with the same conclusion reached on each occasion.”

The source also added: “It’s taken its toll. He sees things everywhere, he picks battles with everybody, and that’s tiring.

“You can’t live in permanent battle mode. You’re a 40-year-old man. You’ve got to stop fighting the world.”

Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle eventually settled in Montecito, California, after stepping down as working royals in 2020. It’s where they moved with their son, Prince Archie, and welcomed their second child, Princess Lilibet.

The father-of-two, in the interview also spoke of his desire to reconcile with the family, saying: “I would love reconciliation with my family, there’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious, I don’t know how much longer my father has, he won’t speak to me because of this security stuff.”

He conceded the interview, stating that any reconciliation would be in his family’s hands, adding: “If they don’t want that, that’s entirely up to them.”

He described his court defeat as a “good old-fashioned establishment stitch up” and blamed the Royal Household for influencing the decision to reduce his security.

However, the approach Harry took in the interview has been criticised by experts. Royal author Robert Jobson, suggests a different approach was needed. As reported in Hello! Magazine, he said: “Harry should have said to his father ‘Sorry, I’ve got this wrong; I’ve made a mistake but I want to reconcile’.”
