15 Best Egyptian Cotton Bedding Sets 2025, Tested & Reviewed

If you’re going to splash out on Egyptian cotton bedding, you want it to tick all the boxes – soft enough to sink into, durable enough to survive countless spins in the wash, and stylish enough to look straight out of a luxury hotel mood board. Whether you’re eyeing up a duvet cover set in crisp white, a deep fitted sheet that hugs the mattress just right, or a set of perfectly tailored pillowcases, it’s one of those home upgrades that feels instantly worth it the first time you climb in.

The magic’s in the fibres – extra-long staple cotton grown in Egypt’s balmy climate, spun into finer threads that give you a smooth, breathable finish. A 400-thread count (or higher thread count if you want to go all out) means more fibres per square inch, which equals more comfort and that subtle, weighty drape you’d expect from luxe bed linen. And it’s not just about the feel. Egyptian cotton is naturally colourfast, so that deep navy super king duvet cover or blush pink Oxford pillowcase you’ve been eyeing up will keep its richness for years.

When it comes to weave, it’s all about mood. Love a cool, matte look? Go for cotton percale – crisp, fresh, and perfect for summer nights. Prefer something with a little more polish? Egyptian cotton sateen brings that gentle sheen and silky-smooth hand feel that screams luxury bedding. If you can’t decide, you could always mix and match – a flat sheet in airy percale with sateen bedding on top gives you the best of both worlds.

Plenty of brands are nailing it right now. From The White Company’s hotel-style minimalism to newer names like Scooms doing OEKO-TEX certified everything, the choice has never been better. And if you’ve been told to obsess over thread count cotton, remember: a 300 thread count in long-staple cotton can feel every bit as super soft as those sky-high numbers – it’s the quality of the fibre that really matters.

So whether you’re upgrading to Egyptian cotton bed linen for the first time or adding another bedding set to your rotation, this is where you get that just-checked-in-to-a-luxury hotel feeling without leaving home. All that’s left? Hit checkout, make the bed, and look forward to your best night’s sleep yet.

Meet the experts:

What is so special about Egyptian cotton?

Egyptian cotton’s reputation for luxury isn’t hype – it’s down to the plant itself and where it’s grown. As Emily Attwood, founder of Scooms, explains, “Egyptian cotton is only authentically Egyptian if it comes from the plant Gossypium Barbadense, is grown in Egypt and is certified Egyptian cotton. It’s the climate in Egypt that enables the longer staples or fibres to grow, which can then be spun into extra-fine threads.” Those fibres are also hand-picked, “which puts less stress on the fibres so they remain straight and intact, as well as being stronger and more resistant to stress”, Emily explains.

All of this means finer yarns, fewer joins and a smoother, more flexible finish. It’s a fabric that works beautifully in bed – “It’s highly breathable and sweat wicking as the fabric is more porous, allowing more air to pass through; helping you to sleep better if you are a hot sleeper,” says Emily. Egyptian cotton is also highly colourfast, holding rich, vibrant shades that stay true wash after wash. Unlike many fabrics, it actually improves with age, softening over time and becoming more comfortable the longer you use it. With proper care, it’s a fabric that can look and feel its best for decades.

What is the difference between Egyptian cotton and cotton?

The key difference is in the fibres. Egyptian cotton uses longer, finer yarns that create a softer, stronger fabric, while regular cotton is typically made from shorter fibres that don’t have the same durability or smoothness. This means Egyptian cotton resists pilling, keeps its shape and feel, and improves with age.

One thing to watch out for: not all products labelled “Egyptian cotton” are 100% authentic. Some are blended with lower-grade cotton, so always check the label and look for certification before you buy.
