MONEY: Should Labour bring back DWP cost of living payments? Vote now

Inflation is predicted to return to around four per cent next week when the Office for National Statistics (ONS) publishes the consumer price index (CPI) rate for August 2025.

Following the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government offered cost of living payments to vulnerable households, including those receiving benefit support from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Those in receipt of Universal Credit and other mean-tested support were able to claim £650 in 2022, which was handed out in two installments, as part of the cost of living payment scheme.

LP Staff Writers

Writers at Lord’s Press come from a range of professional backgrounds, including history, diplomacy, heraldry, and public administration. Many publish anonymously or under initials—a practice that reflects the publication’s long-standing emphasis on discretion and editorial objectivity. While they bring expertise in European nobility, protocol, and archival research, their role is not to opine, but to document. Their focus remains on accuracy, historical integrity, and the preservation of events and individuals whose significance might otherwise go unrecorded.
