Is The Summer I Turned Pretty season 4 happening?

The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 finale spoilers ahead.

Well. After that finale, we need to know – are we getting a The Summer I Turned Pretty season 4?

The TV series has been running for 3 years, but seems to have reached cult watch level this year with its third season, which is based on (but reportedly not totally committed to) Jenny Han’s final novel We’ll Always Have Summer in her YA book trilogy of a young woman Belly (Lola Tung) stuck between her love for two brothers, Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and Conrad (Christopher Briney).

As we now know – and anticipated from the beginning – Belly ultimately chose Conrad and their “infinite” love. But not before a few twists and turns, and a crazed run through Paris’ Gare du Nord station to catch him on the train out of Paris and declare her love. We’re getting Love Actually vibes.

So seeing as the story is told through a trilogy of books and we’ve had three seasons, is the show all wrapped up? Could we possibly get one more season, or even a spin-off, out of it? Here’s what we know about the potential for a The Summer I Turned Pretty season 4.

Will there be a The Summer I Turned Pretty season 4?

It doesn’t look like it, in the traditional sense, no. “Three books, three seasons. It feels right to me,” author (and executive producer of the series) Jenny Han told Entertainment Weekly.

After all, season one was based on the first book of the trilogy, The Summer I Turned Pretty, season two followed the second It’s Not Summer Without You, and season three is based on the final book, We’ll Always Have Summer.

With that in mind, it doesn’t seem like The Summer I Turned Pretty season 4 is on the cards for us, sadly.

What about a The Summer I Turned Pretty spin-off?

At time of writing, there are no confirmed plans for a TSITP spin-off, however we’re not prepared to give up hope yet. Besides, Jenny Han created XO, Kitty, which was a spin-off from her To All The Boys… book series and followed protagonist Lara Jean’s sister Kitty’s study abroad adventure in South Korea.

Also, Jenny leaves us with a note at the end of the finale’s credits, the end of which reads: “maybe we’ll meet again one summer in Cousins”. Don’t tease us!

As well as seeing our old faves once more, we’d also really love to see a 1990s nostalgia-soaked spin-off focused on Laurel and Susannah growing up as besties. Anyone else?
