Wedding of Prince Philipp of Hesse and Princess Mafalda of Savoy

Royal Guests and Relatives gathered from around Europe to celebrate the Wedding of Prince Philipp of Hesse and Princess Mafalda of Savoy at the Castle of Racconigi on this day in 1925, 100 years ago!

Prince Philipp of Hesse, son of the Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel and Princess Margaret of Prussia, married Princess Mafalda of Savoy, daughter of King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy and Princess Elena of Montenegro, at the Castle of Racconigi, following a Civil Ceremony performed by Mussolini. The couple had four children and remained happily married until the middle of the Second World War, when both of them were arrested separately, and Princess Mafalda died in a concentration camp in 1944, while Prince Philipp never remarried.

Princess Mafalda of Savoy wore the historic Hesse Ears of Wheat Tiara.
