Eamonn Holmes has hit back at criticism over Angela Rayner’s latest move, which has landed her in hot water.

The story, splashed across newspapers this morning, saw her taxpayer-funded bodyguards helping her partner move belongings into her second home.

Ms Rayner’s spokesman confirmed that the officers assisted Mr Tarry in relocating “a small number” of the ex-Deputy Prime Minister’s possessions due to security concerns.

Speaking about the story on GB News, Eamonn said: “What I’d say to whoever wrote this story is, you try doing her job.

“You try moving about. She’s on death lists. She’s had threats made against her. What is your problem?

“Do I care as a taxpayer that her other half is ferrying boxes about in her car? No, I personally don’t.”

Baroness Hayter agreed: “Well, I mean, there’s a real issue of security here. I know that because I lived until recently very close to where our current Prime Minister lives.

“I understand how difficult it is to move things on a street like that.

“And very quickly, particularly with social media, a crowd can gather, and security becomes very difficult to maintain.”

Former Conservative minister Tom Pursglove weighed in: “The challenge is always the complexity, especially with social media and media coverage in cases like this.

“Angela Rayner is a very high-profile figure and has just left Government.

“There will be a sophisticated threat picture around her, and I’m sure the authorities will respond by ensuring she has the right level of security, just as Nigel Farage does, and rightly so.

“To be honest, I have real sympathy. I’ve known Nigel for a long time and have witnessed people act in ways that are intimidating and threatening towards him. Security needs to be taken seriously to protect all frontline politicians.

“But, perception matters. This story doesn’t look brilliant. Many people across the country might think that if you’re a politician, you should pay for your own removal.

“When it comes to issues like this, you have to keep public perception in mind.”

Eamonn Holmes said: “I don’t agree with you.”

The Baroness said: “The fact that the media were there to take pictures of her just shows she can’t do anything privately.

Mr Pursglove said: “Candidly, she should be left alone.”
