MEPs try to topple Ursula von der Leyen (again) — live updates

Ursula von der Leyen is back in the European Parliament to defend herself against no-confidence motions brought by opposition lawmakers.

Just three months after she survived a Parliament vote on her leadership of the European Commission, von der Leyen faces two more confidence motions, both of which will be debated Monday evening.

The far-right Patriots for Europe group will take von der Leyen to task over her trade policy, namely the EU’s Mercosur trade deal and the EU-U.S. trade deal. Then the Left group will criticize von der Leyen’s trade policy and accuse her of “complicity in genocide” in Gaza.

The votes on von der Leyen’s future will take place on Thursday.

Writers at Lord’s Press come from a range of professional backgrounds, including history, diplomacy, heraldry, and public administration. Many publish anonymously or under initials—a practice that reflects the publication’s long-standing emphasis on discretion and editorial objectivity. While they bring expertise in European nobility, protocol, and archival research, their role is not to opine, but to document. Their focus remains on accuracy, historical integrity, and the preservation of events and individuals whose significance might otherwise go unrecorded.
