Meghan Markle compared her and Prince Harry’s deal with Netflix to Barack and Michelle Obama’s contract with their production company, Higher Ground.

“My husband and I were in an overall deal with Netflix then, not dissimilar to Higher Ground and the Obamas’ deal, once that had come to its term, the extension of it — which was such an incredible sign of the strength of our partnership — was now being in a first-look deal,” the Duchess of Sussex said at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit in Washington, DC, Tuesday.

“Which is also exciting because it gives us flexibility to go to our partners first, then at the same time, shop content that might not be the right fit for Netflix but has a home somewhere else,” she added.

In 2020, Markle and the Duke of Sussex signed a $100 million, multi-year deal with Netflix, nearly nine months after they stepped down as senior members of the royal family.

Under the deal, the couple — who wed in 2018 and share kids Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4 — would develop “documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming,” per the New York Times.

“Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” Markle, 44, and Harry, 41, told the outlet in a statement at the time. “As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us.”

So far, the Sussexes have released several shows under their deal, including their bombshell docuseries “Harry & Meghan” and Markle’s lifestyle show, “With Love, Meghan.”

In July, Page Six exclusively reported that Harry and Markle’s deal with Netflix was coming to an end, but the former game show model would continue working with the company through her lifestyle business, As Ever.

Despite viewership being reportedly down for Season 2 of the “Suits” alum’s show, Markle announced at the Fortune summit that a holiday special will hit the streaming platform in November.
