Princess Shahnaz Pahlavi’s Diamond Tiara

Happy Birthday to Princess Shahnaz Pahlavi of Iran, who turns 85 today! The only daughter of the last Shah of Iran and the stunning Egyptian Princess, who now resides in exile in Switzerland, Princess Shahnaz had some spectacular jewels, which included this Diamond Tiara she received on her first Wedding!

When the Shah of Iran’s only daughter, Princess Shahnaz Pahlavi, married Ardeshir Zahedi in 1957, he gave this magnificent coloured Diamond Scroll Tiara as a wedding gift, which features pink and yellow diamonds in an ornate frame rather reminiscent of Princess Ileana’s Diamond Tiara.

Princess Shahnaz wore her Diamond Scroll Tiara on numerous occasions in the years after her marriage, especially when she served as the First Lady of the Iranian Court following her father’s divorce.

Princess Shahnaz also notably wore the Diamond Tiara for the Wedding of the Shah of Iran and his third wife, Farah Diba, at the Golestan Palace in 1961.

A few years later, Princess Shahnaz wore the Diamond Tiara for a series of striking portraits which were taken around the time of her divorce in 1964. The Tiara was paired with a Boucheron Diamond Necklace previously worn by her grandmother, Queen Tadj ol-Molouk.

A few years later, many of the Iranian Imperial Family’s jewels were reset ahead of the Shah of Iran’s Coronation in 1967, which may be the fate of this Diamond Tiara as it was not publicly worn during the festivities. When the Iranian Royal Family fled Tehran in 1979, their jewels was left behind in Tehran, where many are on display at the National Treasury of Iran in the Central Bank in Tehran.
