Princess Gina’s Diamond Brooch

Happy Birthday to Princess Nora, Marchioness of Mariño, who turns 75 today! The only sister of the Prince of Liechtenstein, who married a Spanish Marquess and is a longtime member of the International Olympic Committee, Princess Nora has inherited this striking Diamond Brooch from her mother, Princess Gina!

The exact origin of this striking Diamond Brooch is unknown but it may originate from the Princely Family, the House of Habsburg or the Wilczek or Kinsky von Wchinitz und Tettau Families.

In the 1950s and 1970s, Princess Gina frequently paired the Diamond Brooch with her Diamond Earrings and Diamond Choker,  like for the Wedding of Prince Juan Carlos of Spain and Princess Sofia of Greece in 1962.

Princess Gina also paired the Brooch with the Habsburg Fringe Tiara for the Wedding Ball of King Constantine II of Greece and Princess Anne Marie of Denmark at the Royal Palace of Athens in 1964.

A few years later, the Diamond Brooch was worn by Princess Gina with the  Habsburg Fringe, Diamond Earrings and Diamond Choker for the Wedding Ball of Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein and Countess Marie Kinsky von Wchinitz und Tettau at Schloss Vaduz in 1967.

Princess Gina continued to wear the Diamond Brooch through the 1970s and 1980s, for daytime as well as evening occasions.

In 1988, Princess Gina’s only daughter, Princess Nora, wore the Diamond Brooch as a Tiara along with her mother’s Diamond Earrings when she married Don Vicente Sartorius y Cabeza de Vaca, Marqués de Mariño.

Princess Nora later wore the Diamond Earrings and Brooch at the Wedding Gala of Prince Franz Josef von Auersperg-Trautson and Archduchess Maria Constanza of Austria in 1994.

In more recent years, Princess Nora notably wore her mother’s Diamond Brooch at the Wedding of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg and Countess Stephanie de Lannoy in 2012. Let’s hope this splendid Royal Heirloom makes a reappearance soon!
