SKIP TO: How we choose the best erotic novels

How we choose the best erotic novels:

We (willing GLAMOUR editors) have been browsing the book shelves — both physical and virtual — since 2022 in an attempt to keep track of the latest erotic fiction releases. We set about reading them cover to cover — but, because we’re all different in terms of our tastes, we also skimmed a series of online reviews to see how it fared in the wild.

Each title was considered against the following criteria: plot, characterisation, language (both in terms of ease of reading and style), length, price and form — is it exclusively available in hardback form, or also on Kindle for our high-tech text hoarders? Of course, only the best have been given a spotlight below. Read more on how we test.

Ahead, our edit of the best erotic novels, recommended by GLAMOUR’s sexual wellness writer:

1. Dead Poets Sorority

Dead Poets Sorority

Why you need to read it: For those who want a funny, flirty and fantasy-inspiring holiday read, this is it. Sofia Shelley talks from the perspective of intrepid student journalist Emma Reeves, who goes undercover to investigate the Dead Poets Sorority (shock). She expects to find a group of bored college girls with Ouija boards, but instead conjures her very own 19th-century dead poet, known as Nathaniel Harker. And, of course, strikes up a budding romance.

2. Sour Fruit

Sour Fruit

Why you need to read it: For those after a dopamine-inducing coffee table book, Ahana Virdi’s first novel certainly fits the bill. Grieving over the unexplained death of her girlfriend and trapped in a spiral of bad casual sex and self-loathing, she is finding it increasingly hard to suppress her craving for something unspeakable. Labelled by publishing director, Suzie Dooré, as ‘a blisteringly fresh take on the hugely popular ‘sad girl’ sub-genre’, it’s safe to say we’re excited.
