By this point, it is old hat to talk about how hard it is to make new friends as an adult. The common advice you’ll hear is that you should join a recreational kickball league or start taking a ceramics class — bo-ring! If you’re feeling lonely, have you considered hosting a member of the royal family on your Apple TV+ show and being delightful enough that you score an invite to their big holiday party? It worked for Eugene Levy.
In September, Levy went to Windsor Castle on his travel show, The Reluctant Traveler, where he met with Prince William for a tour and a pint. It seemed like the two had something akin to a genuine connection — William talked about his challenging 2024, and he also rode around on a scooter. It turns out their mutual appreciation was real, and Levy scored an invitation to Kate Middleton’s annual Christmas-carol service at Westminster Abbey on Friday.
Similar to his meeting with William, Levy hit it off with Middleton immediately. In a video shared by Hello’s Instagram, the actor stands to greet the princess and they have a friendly conversation about Levy’s palace visit:
Levy tells her that he had a “lovely day” with William, and she asks if he met their dog, Orla. (He did.) “Well, I’m a bit of a dog whisperer myself, but the cookies helped,” Levy says. He then asks if William enjoyed himself. You can’t hear what Kate says in the video, but she appears to be nodding in assent. “It was a memorable day, that’s for sure,” Levy tells the princess.
That might not seem like much on paper, but I encourage you to watch the video. They’re really vibing. Sure, it is Kate’s job to look interested in the people she meets, but she does seem to actually enjoy talking with the actor. And, frankly, who wouldn’t? He seems like a lovely man. At the rate that he’s charming the royals, I expect we’ll see him ringing in the New Year with King Charles in a few weeks.
