Dior Addict Perfumes Review: Why This Is The Only Perfume I’m Wearing This Spring

Glamour’s associate beauty director, Fiona, was one of the first to try the new Dior Addict perfumes. After test-driving them for two months, these are her honest thoughts on the fruity-floral gourmand scents set to take over your Instagram feed this spring…

Perfume has a habit of taking itself very seriously. It’s a mind-bending aphrodisiac; it smells like high-end hotel lobbies or boasts a laundry list of complex notes to tell you how clever it is. But sometimes life simply calls for the fragrance equivalent of a sugary, glowy lip oil to make you feel wildly happy – in which case, prepare to fall for the new Dior Addict perfumes.

At the Paris launch of the new fragrance trio – Peachy Glow, Rosy Glow and Purple Glow – a sun-dappled rooftop apartment was transformed into a Marie Antoinette-coded pick-and-mix station with towering glass jars and jewel-like sweets. Centre stage was a cake stand showcasing candy-coloured, high-sheen perfume bottles that looked uncannily like XXL versions of Dior’s cult Lip Glow Oil.

And with good reason – perfumer Francis Kurkdjian (the man behind Baccarat Rouge 540) not only wants you to smell “good enough to eat”, but the juices themselves are inspired by the playfulness of this iconic makeup product. “I wanted something as easy to wear as the lip oil – something whimsical and playful,” Francis says. “Sometimes perfumes are very dramatic, dark and mysterious,” he adds. “We need fun right now.”

Dior Addict perfumes: My review

Given the room’s setup, my first thought was that my wrists were about to be blasted with the type of sickly-sweet ‘eau de dessert’ that’s catnip for tweens. I (thankfully) couldn’t have been more wrong. My lips spontaneously curled into a smile as I inhaled a burst of flowers – Dior’s signature rose, jasmine and iris – plump fruits and a hint of something nose-twitchingly comforting.

Make no mistake, the Rosy, Peachy and Purple Glow fragrances are definitely gourmand perfumes. But, rather than smell sticky, they’re an elevated blend that somehow manages to make you smell sweet and sophisticated simultaneously. In other words, you’re not in danger of anyone licking your neck but their joyful, cosy afterglow will make you feel like you’re wrapped up in cashmere socks.

And, despite being dreamed up by a luxury brand, they avoid taking themselves too seriously. As their names suggest, Rosy Glow, Peachy Glow and Purple Glow are way too bright, happy and free-spirited than that – which is precisely why I’ve been spritzing them on repeat during the dark days of winter to give me a much-needed emotional boost.
