Israel has agreed to conditions for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, U.S. President Donald Trump announced Tuesday night.

Qatar and Egypt, “who have worked very hard to help bring Peace,” will deliver the proposal agreed between the U.S. and Israel to Hamas, Trump wrote on Truth Social. A ceasefire would pave the way toward ending the war altogether, he added. 

“I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE,” the president said in his post. 

Israeli and Hamas officials did not immediately comment on the deal, and the full terms remain unclear. Both are under growing international pressure to end the war.

A recent report by the EU’s diplomatic service found that Israeli actions in Gaza — including restrictions on humanitarian aid — may violate the terms of its association agreement with the bloc. According to the Gaza health ministry, more than 56,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war began after Hamas militants raided Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking over 250 hostages.

Around 50 of the Israeli hostages are still in Gaza, at least 20 of whom are believed to be alive.

All previously agreed ceasefires between Israel and Hamas — including one brokered by Trump this January — have collapsed.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will travel to the U.S. next week to meet with Trump.
