July’s Full Moon 2025: What The Buck Moon Means For Your Sign

Get ready for that full moon feeling, because July’s full moon is right around the corner.

The Buck Moon, named after the period when young deer grow new antlers, is typically associated with a period of growth and change — but this year, it may feel a little difference. On July 10, the annual Buck Moon will rise in Cancer, bringing about a period of reflection and balance — think of it as the perfect opportunity for a mid-year check-in (yes, we are already half-way through the year!).

We spoke to clinical psychologist and astrologer Tracey King to find out more about this Buck Moon and how it will affect you.

When is July’s full Buck Moon?

July’s full moon, the Buck Moon, is set to rise on Thursday, July 10 at 9.37pm here in the UK, which means it will very visible in the night’s sky. It will be one of the year’s most low-hanging moons, so keep an eye out on the eastern horizon at dusk.

What is a Buck Moon?

The yearly full moon in July is named the Buck Moon. It’s “named for when young male deer begin to grow new antlers,” explains King. “It’s a time of growth, renewal and emerging strength.”

What is the significance of the Buck Moon?

Although the Buck Moon is associated with the transformations that occur in the summer months in the natural world, it may feel a little different this year as the moon falls in Cancer, a sign associated with stability.

Prepare for this full moon to bring a “steady, practical energy while the Sun is in Cancer,” says King, adding, “It’s a chance to check in: are you balancing your emotional needs with your goals? It’s a moment to reflect on boundaries, direction, and what you’re building for yourself.”

This is a period to think about things like “work-life balance, family responsibilities and the tension between comfort and progress,” she says.

While it may be a time of stability, don’t be surprised if it also feels like a little bit of an emotional roller coaster. “Emotions can rise, especially if you’ve been putting your needs last or ignoring deeper ambitions,” King adds.

How to prepare for July’s Buck Moon?

Think about how you can ground yourself and prepare for some honest self-reflection. Try taking a solo walk or meditating in nature.

King recommends trying this grounding ritual:

  1. Find a quiet moment on the night of the full moon or the evening before, by a window or outside.
  2. Place your feet flat on the ground, taking slow breaths to arrive in your body.
  3. Reflect: What am I ready to outgrow? Where am I ready to strengthen my boundaries? What new direction or goal is quietly calling me?
  4. Write down one thing you wish to release (people-pleasing, overcommitting, self-doubt).
  5. Tear up the paper or safely burn it, visualising the restriction lifting.
  6. Place your hands on your heart or belly and say, “I am open to growth that honours who I am and who I am becoming.”
