A Beauty Editor’s Simple Invisible UV Fluid SPF50 Review + Prime Day Deal

July used to mark the annual ‘sunscreen safari’, where I’d stalk the aisles for an SPF with a Goldilocks just-right level of glow. Simple’s Invisible UV Fluid SPF50, a new SPF for the face, changed all that. So this year, there won’t be any cries of “This one’s too greasy!”, “This one’s too chalky!” or “This one makes me smell like a Pina Colada!”.

I was one of the first beauty editors to receive a lab sample of this SPF back in May. The unveiling of a new sunscreen typically goes like this: beauty editors are invited to a presentation, where the science behind the formula is explained. They dutifully apply a pea-sized drop to the back of their hands, cautiously sniff it and take the sample back to the office.

The big reveal for the Simple Invisible UV Fluid SPF50 couldn’t have been more different. For one, there were experiments that elicited audible gasps. UV beads that typically turn purple when you put them in the sun were coated in the SPF and stayed white. In another, Simple’s new antioxidant technology immediately turned a dark spot solution from sludge green to clear – faster and more effectively than the standard vitamin C in a separate petri dish.

In another turn of events, beauty editors were suddenly lining up two fingers’ worth of the SPF and feverishly applying it to their cheeks, foreheads, necks – heck, even their arms. Clearly, this SPF launch was going to be huge.

Here’s everything you need to know, as the product gets reduced to less than £9 in the Amazon Prime Day beauty deals event.

The science bit

One of the most impressive things about Simple’s £12.99 SPF is that it contains a first-to-market, breakthrough technology. Yes, you have a high SPF50 to protect your skin in the sun. But that’s not all: there’s something called ‘Gluta-Amino Technology’, which also helps to reverse the signs of sun damage you already have, by evening tone and visibly reducing dark spots.

Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant produced in nearly every cell of the human body. Put simply, this SPF boosts your skin’s ability to produce glutathione – and, in doing so, it supercharges your skin’s natural protection.

Oh, and glutathione gives other antioxidants a boost, too. So if, like me, you’re wedded to wearing a vitamin C serum underneath your sunscreen, then this technology will make that vitamin C even more potent. Clever, no?

Simple Invisible UV Fluid SPF50: My verdict

Let’s face it: sunscreen is one of the hardest products to make sexy. But I think Simple has managed to do just that with new technology to make beauty fans purr with delight; it also scratches an itch for those who want to stave off premature lines, loss of firmness and sun spots, as well as sunburn.
