Kate Middleton just went full honey blonde for summer

If you want to take your hair lighter this summer, let Kate Middleton give you some inspiration. Although the Princess of Wales is known for her signature long brunette waves, she’s slowly been making her way over to the blonde side the past few months, first debuting a lighter shade of brunette in May. During a stylish appearance at the British Fashion Council awards, Princess Kate showed off a new bronde colour that she also wore on an anniversary trip to Scotland with Prince William later that same month.

But now, it seems she’s taken things even blonder. On July 8, Princess Kate stepped out with Prince William to welcome French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife for their official state visit to Britain. For the occasion, her hair was an allover honey-blonde colour that complimented her blush Christian Dior outfit nicely. With her pink tulle skirt and blonde hair, she’s very much giving royal Carrie Bradshaw.

Honey blonde, also known as cozy blonde, has been one of the biggest hair-colour trends of the moment, appearing on celebs like Zendaya, Rihanna, and Kim Kardashian. As for what makes this colour so appealing? It fits right in with the rise of low-maintenance hair colours.

Cozy blonde is a term used to describe a super-low-maintenance approach to being a blonde,” says Michelle Cleveland, celebrity hair-extension artist and Wella master colour expert. “The look embraces more depth in the hair with lowlights and strategic placement of lighter blonde shades, allowing for a low-maintenance blonde that works for any season.”

It’s especially great for anyone transitioning from brunette to blonde and vice versa, like Kate Middleton. “Anyone who feels a little washed out from the overall brightness [of their blonde] usually transitions very well into wearing this look,” Cleveland says, as do those who are tired of upkeep that is too time-consuming, expensive, or damaging. “In this case, your stylist can create a cozy blonde that gives you the best of both worlds.”
