The GB News host pointed to the Shadow Chancellor’s warning that 10 per cent of all new housing “could go to migrants or people not born in the country”.

Ms Fahnbulleh fired back, insisting asylum seekers do not have access to social housing and accusing the Conservatives of failing to fix housing and immigration struggles during their 14 years in power.

Speaking to the minister on Britain’s News Channel, Eamonn said: “You’ve got a heck of a brief. I mean, a really hot potato. Housing is such an important issue for so many people in so many ways.

“Today, we had the Shadow Chancellor, Mel Stride, on the program. He’s at the Conservative conference and outlined various ways the party claims it can save the Exchequer money, particularly on spending for migrants.

“He said that 10 per cent of all new housing in the country goes to migrants or people not born in this country, and that he plans to stop that.

“What’s your take on this? Is that something that can or should be managed?”

The Faith and Communities Minister responded: “Look, the first thing I’d say is that if you’re an asylum seeker in this country, you don’t have access to social housing.

“Candidly, the second thing I’d say is that when I hear the Conservative Party talking, I tend to roll my eyes.

“They’ve had 14 years to fix the housing crisis, 14 years to fix an immigration system they broke, which wasn’t broken under us.

“Candidly, they can chuck all the gimmicks and ideas they want. When they had a shot, they absolutely messed it up.

“It’s our job now to clean up their mess, to make sure we both tackle the housing crisis, which we will with our commitment to deliver 1.5 million homes, and, critically, to fix the immigration system they broke.”

The comments come as Labour announced plans to make the house buying system cheaper and faster in what it has called the “biggest shake-up to the homebuying system in this country’s history”.

The plans will force sellers and estate agents to give buyers essential details before they commit, covering the home’s condition, leasehold fees, and the chain of other buyers.

The Government said the measures will help “end nasty surprises that result in last-minute collapses” and give first-time buyers greater confidence.

They also suggested binding contracts could be introduced to prevent people from walking away after months of negotiations.

Officials believe the proposed package of reforms could save first-time buyers an average of £710.
