Cheering Comey indictment, Trump predicts ‘there will be others’

President Donald Trump on Friday praised the Justice Department’s indictment of James Comey and suggested the former FBI director may not be the last of his political enemies to be charged, although he denied having a list of targets.

“It’s not a list, but I think there will be others,” Trump told reporters before departing the White House to watch the Ryder Cup golf tournament in New York. “I hope there will be others.”

He added: “That’s my opinion.”

Trump said Comey, who he disparaged as “a dirty cop,” and other “radical left Democrats…weaponized the Justice Department” and accused the former FBI director of lying to Congress in 2020 during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing about the FBI’s investigation into links between Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and Russia.

“He lied,” the president said. “For him, it was a very good answer if he didn’t get caught. He got caught.”

Trump also denied that he was pushing the DOJ, traditionally a politically independent department, to go after his opponents.

“It’s about justice, not revenge,” Trump said. “These are sick, radical left people. It is also about the fact that you can’t let this go on. They are sick, radical left people. And they can’t get away with it.”

Trump over the weekend publicly complained over the lack of criminal charges against his perceived political enemies, warning Attorney General Pam Bondi that “we can’t delay any longer.”
