Jeremy Corbyn has arrived at the anti-Trump protests in London and told Britain’s News Channel that there is “no reason” for the American Presidents State Visit.
Speaking to Britain’s News Channel, the leader of Your Party said:” Well, it’s an unusual ever second state visit for the same person. Very strange.
“And he’s not actually meeting anybody on this trip. He’s just a choreographed visit for the benefit of American television. We’re showing us a few people here that would like to tell him something different.”
Asked why he attended the protests, he said: “It’s to show that there’s an alternative to economic division, social division and the rise of racism in our society.”
Thousands of demonstrators swarmed on Parliament Square this afternoon as demonstrators staged a rally against Donald Trump’s second state visit to Britain.
The march, organised by the Stop Trump Coalition, a network of more than 50 trade unions and activist groups, set off from Portland Place before making its way through central London towards Whitehall.
Chants of “no to Trump” rang out as protesters waved placards attacking the former US President, while others carried anti-Israel slogans and banners accusing Mr Trump of racism.
Smaller replicas of the notorious 20ft “Trump Baby” blimp, first flown during his 2019 visit, were also spotted among the crowds.
President Trump touched down at London Stansted Airport aboard Air Force One on Tuesday, accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, marking the beginning of his three-day state visit to Britain.
The presidential couple proceeded to the American ambassador’s residence in central London following their arrival.
Speaking to reporters at the residence, President Trump indicated that Wednesday would be “a very big day” and confirmed scheduled meetings with King Charles, whom he described as a “long time” friend.
The couple are enjoying a day of pomp and pageantry with the extended Royal Family at Windsor Castle, culminating this evening in a state banquet.
The carefully choreographed visit marks the first time Mr Trump has met King Charles since he became monarch.
