Labour’s decision to potentially grant the Chinese Government a “mega-embassy” in the heart of the capital has been branded “disgraceful” by Danny Kruger.

Speaking to GB News, the Reform UK MP hit out at the plans for the “huge new spy base” and demanded Labour not “kowtow to China”.

Mr Kruger joined masses of protesters in the capital as they rallied against the plans for the new mega-embassy.

Development plans for the embassy, exposed by The Telegraph, showed unredacted drawings of just how close plans for an underground room will be to sensitive fibre optic cables. The sheer proximity to these wires has sparked concern, given they carry financial information and data to and from the City of London.

Expressing his outrage at the plans, Mr Kruger told GB News National Reporter Will Godley: “It is the worst regime in the world in terms of what it’s doing to its own people and the abuse and oppression that happens in China.

“Also, the role it plays in destabilising the world and supporting other terrible regimes like the one in Russia, in Iran, in North Korea.”

He added: “But the real concern is about the future and what they’re doing with technology already and what they are planning with buildings like this, which would be the biggest embassy in Europe with an enormous operation for spying on our country and on others, it is seriously dystopian.

“So it is disgraceful that the Labour Government should be considering approving this. A huge new spy base for this great strategic adversary of our country right here in the City of London, right next to some of these crucial internet cables that run along under the underground here.”

Criticising the Sir Keir further, Mr Kruger said: “So the only reason they are doing it is because of, I think, grubby commercial deals that Rachel Reeves and Keir Starmer think they need to make to get Britain growing again. They don’t. It hasn’t worked.

“All of our cosying up to China for the last decade, we need to rebuild our own economy. We need to build our own industrial infrastructure once again. That is the way to grow our economy, not by kowtowing to China.”

Rebutting claims made by cyber security expert Ciaran Martin, who said Sir Keir would “not have approved the project” without agreement from intelligence agencies, Mr Kruger said: “I was very disappointed by that article.

“I suspect that’s been placed there by No10, which is pretending to be neutral about this planning application. Of course, they’re supportive of it. And that article, I think, was ridiculously naive about the power of China to use technology to spy on us.

“And I’m afraid it exaggerates the power of our own security services to withstand it. The best way to keep us safe is to stop applications like this, and to take a much more robust line on the activity of China in our country.”

The proposed development has faced criticism across the political spectrum.

If approved, the facility would become the largest Chinese embassy anywhere in Europe, consolidating several existing Chinese government buildings scattered across the capital into a single site.

In a statement, the Government as said: “National security is the first duty of this Government and has been the core priority throughout this process.

“That is why the Home Office and Foreign Office worked closely across Government, with policing, and other relevant partners, to ensure that any potential national security issues associated with this planning application have been considered and addressed.”

Shadow Home Secretary Priti Patel told GB News on Wednesday: “The major concerns are, of course, the national security of our country.

“That is something that no Government should ever, ever compromise, and that is exactly what Keir Starmer’s Government is doing.

“They can’t be trusted with our national security – they’re too busy kowtowing to China.”
