Merthyr Tydfil resident Les Morris has hit out at the Labour Government in a fiery tirade, branding it an “absolute disgrace”.

Speaking to GB News, Mr Morris declared that the Welsh community has been “let down badly” by Sir Keir Starmer’s Government, urging him to “reconsider the working man”.

Criticising Labour’s latest approach since coming into power, Mr Morris said: “The new Labour Government, I think they’ve dug a hole for themselves.

“The first policy they brought out was getting rid of the Winter Fuel Allowance, and that affected I would say about 60 to 80 per cent of Labour voters, because I believe Labour voters are 60 plus. So I think they’ve taken a lot of their support, and wiped that out straightaway.”

Reflecting on Labour’s recent Budget, the ex-businessman declared there is “no confidence left” in the Government from business owners.

He said: “There’s no confidence left in the towns, not only in Merthyr, but throughout the valleys.

“They’re so deprived now, and they’ve just been left. In this area, it’s been a Labour stronghold, and I think they’ve let the people down. I think they’ve let the people down badly.”

Criticising the lack of support for new investment in the community, Mr Morris explained: “Through past experience, you tend not to have the full support of your local councils. When you apply for things, the amount of red tape involved just for a simple thing like opening a cafe or a factory.

“We’ve been trying to get a ski slope resort in Merthyr, and I know the gentleman that’s involved in that, and the amount of work involved going through the local councils, the Welsh Office, it seems as if they put the barriers against new investment all the time in the valleys.”

Hitting out at Labour’s inability to “realise how ordinary people live”, Mr Morris fumed: “I think Eton boys in the Labour Party, it doesn’t work. I don’t think they realise how ordinary people live.

“I don’t think they realise what the ordinary working man has to go through just to survive these days.”

Asking the Welsh local what the main issues are that are affecting the people of Merthyr Tydfil, he revealed: “The biggest issue is unemployment, and the housing situation, and also the influx of the illegal immigrants. They move into hotels and various places in Merthyr.

“Also the explosion of Turkish barbers, vape shops, there’s nothing left on the high streets for people. There’s nothing to entice people into the town centre of Merthyr at all.”

Expressing his dismay at the “decline” of the community over the last few decades, he told Patrick: “This area has changed, definitely, over the last 20 years. The decline hasn’t happened since Labour came into Government, the decline had been here for the last 20, 30 years.

“And obviously with the Tory Government they didn’t give a toots about Wales anyway, but I thought this Labour Government would have put more into our area because the Senedd is Labour controlled anyway.

“So I thought we’d have a boost when they came in, national party, but it doesn’t seem to be happening.”

Asked by Patrick what he believes the Labour Government “needs to do to win back support” from Wales, Mr Morris told GB News: “Well, I think they need to reconsider the working man.

“They need to consider the people that are struggling with mortgages, the people that are struggling to feed their children. In this day and age, it’s an absolute disgrace. The situation our country has gone into an absolute disgrace.

“I think they’ve lost their roots, whether they would ever go back to the days of the old Labour system, I doubt it, time moves on, I understand.

“But the impression they give is they don’t care. That’s the impression, when they’re interviewed on the television, and it’s not the only Labour, they’re all the same. They cannot answer a question simply.”
