Two National Guard members shot near White House in Washington DC

Two military personnel have been shot near the White House in Washington DC.

The condition of the National Guard members is currently not known.

Emergency vehicles were seen responding in the area.

A suspect has been taken into custody, police said.

The DC Police Department posted on X: “Critical Incident: MPD is on the scene of a shooting at 17th and I Street, NW. Please avoid the area. Updates to come.”

US President Donald Trump has been briefed on the shooting, Reuters reported.

Secretary of state for the US Department of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, said: “Please join me in praying for the two National Guardsmen who were just shot moments ago in Washington D.C.”
