Nigel Farage has launched a scathing attack on Labour over its handling of historic army cases, warning the party is “alienating the entire veterans community” in Britain.

The Reform UK leader condemned the new Troubles-related legislation that passed in the Commons this evening, saying it risks targeting men who served in the British Army decades ago.

Speaking on The People’s Channel, Mr Farage said: “Quite why the Labour Party wants to stir up this hornet’s nest is beyond me.

“I met someone today who served in the British Army for over 40 years, who is now being hounded, taken out of his house at seven in the morning by the police. What on earth are we doing?

“The rumours are that there are four more big cases to come, and they might even go back to Malaya in 1954. This is the hounding of men who’ve given their lives in service of the British Army.

“And you know something? Forget Northern Ireland today. Think about Northern Ireland 30, 40, 50 years ago, it was a bloody, awful, horrible place. Thousands killed, tens of thousands wounded. It was a horrific environment.

“The job of the British Army was to stop the terrorists. And some of these cases are so clear-cut, it’s almost unbelievable.

“Quite why Labour wants to alienate the entirety of the veterans community in Britain is beyond me.”

“This is so classic of this Government. They invert the truth on everything. He’s the plastic patriot, not me or the Saint George’s flag. Keir Starmer. You’d never have seen that even two years ago.

“They believe in a higher global order, the human rights agenda, the international courts. We see it, whether it’s through Chagos or so much else.

“These people are patriots? These people don’t believe in an independent, proud United Kingdom standing up.

“He’s even reversing Brexit week by week with everything he does. This guy, Starmer, when he comes out with this stuff, is a complete and utter fraud.”

The comments come as the new Troubles Bill passed its second reading in the Commons, establishing a reformed Legacy Commission and statutory advisory groups to support victims and survivors, including those from service backgrounds.

The legislation is designed to investigate unsolved killings from the Troubles, a conflict that claimed thousands of lives and left tens of thousands more injured.

Under the new framework, the Commission will have enhanced powers to gather information and hear directly from victims, families, and witnesses.

The Home Office has stated that the reforms aim to provide clarity, reconciliation, and justice for all affected, while maintaining a balanced approach to investigating decades-old incidents.

With at least 77 unresolved deaths in England alone, almost half involving members of the armed forces, the Bill seeks to close a chapter on long-standing disputes left by the previous Legacy Act, which shut down all UK police investigations into Troubles-related killings last year.
