Christmas classic The Holiday is getting an Apple TV+ reboot

Christmas movie favourite The Holiday – which starred Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black and Jude Law – is getting TV reboot treatment from Apple TV+.

Sweetpea‘s Krissie Ducker will serve as writer and executive producer for The Holiday TV series, with Catastrophe and Dying For Sex star Rob Delaney involved as a consultant.

Writer and director of the original film – and all around rom-com darling – Nancy Meyers has had no involvement in the project, and even posted on social media that she discovered the news of the film’s TV adaptation through social media.

“News to me,” she wrote on her Instagram Story, sharing a screenshot of the headline announcing the TV remake. “Imagine my surprise when I opened Instagram and this was the first post I saw,” she added.

With Noughties favourites Freaky Friday and The Devil Wears Prada also getting the reboot and sequel treatment, we are hitting nostalgia overload. Will we see as iconic a festive romance as we did in the original films? Here’s what we know so far about Apple TV+’s The Holiday TV reboot.

What is The Holiday TV series about?

The premise of the original film – two women, one British, one American, trading homes after various experiences of heartbreak over Christmas – will reportedly be kept intact for the reboot, with new, completely different characters and cast.

So it remains to be seen whether they will channel the essence of Cameron Diaz‘s workaholic Amanda, Kate Winslet‘s Iris, the rom-com heart throb that was/is Jude Law (arguably in his prime in The Holiday) and Jack Black’s loveable Miles.

The Holiday TV series cast

No casting announcements have been made, meaning we don’t know who will take on the new characters, and we also have no confirmation if the the cast from the original will make any cameo appearances. We can dream.
