Netflix’s ‘The Investigation of Lucy Letby’ Explores One of the UK’s Most Infamous Cases

In 2023, Lucy Letby was sentenced to 14 whole-life orders for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others between June 2015 and June 2016 while working at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

The trial and her sentencing garnered a huge amount of media attention and, despite her conviction, several unofficial investigations.

The documentary promises to offer one of the most comprehensive, in-depth looks into the notorious case to date.

Here’s everything we know about the upcoming documentary so far.

What is The Investigation of Lucy Letby documentary about?

The Investigation of Lucy Letby is a 90-minute documentary film that follows the infamous case of Lucy Letby, the neonatal nurse found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others under her care between June 2015 and June 2016.

“This was a cruel, calculated and cynical campaign of child murder involving the smallest and most vulnerable children, knowing your actions were causing significant physical suffering,” said Mr Justice Goss said at the time. “There was a malevolence bordering on sadism in your actions.”

Her sentence was the most severe available and she was only fourth woman in UK history to receive a whole life order.

The new feature length documentary will be comprised of testimony from the police who originally investigated the case along with never-before-seen footage of Letby during her arrest and questioning.
