Where Was The Salt Path Filmed? Filming Locations & Coastal Paths, Revealed

If you’ve watched The Salt Path and found yourself immediately searching, ‘where was The Salt Path filmed?’, then you’re not alone. We did the exact same thing.

The 2024 movie may be about two fascinating people, but there is a third character that is just as important: the blustery, rugged, awesome south west coastline.

Based on memoir of Ray Winn, The Salt Path follows Ray and her husband Moth. After Moth was diagnosed with a rare brain condition, he and Ray went bankrupt and lost their home. Then, they made the brave, unexpected decided to walk the 630 miles along the South West Coast Path from Minehead in Somerset, along the coast in Cornwall, all the way to Poole in Dorset.

“It’s like the first character in the book,” Ray told Great British Life of the coastline path. “The film is remarkable in the way it’s captured the sense of two people and their growing relationship with the Coast Path.”

Gillian Anderson, who plays Ray, told us at Glamour, “There’s a scene in the film where Ray lies down and Moth brings her a cup of tea. But on that particular day that we were filming in that particular spot, it was so gorgeous and the sun was shining. And I remember leaning back and completely feeling immersed as Ray would in that moment of joy. And the simplicity of nature and the sun and the flowers and the sounds and the ocean and everything.”

Anderson and her co-star, Jason Isaacs, filmed on location, walking along the Cornish coast. Here are some of the most beautiful Salt Path filming locations.

Minehead

Ray and Moth began their epic walk in Minehead, Somerset. This coastal village sits on the south bank of the Bristol Channel near Exmoor National Park. Here, you’ll find an array of quaint shops, cafés and a few cute seaside fish and chip shops making it the perfect place for a weekend away and, perhaps, a shorter hike.

Porlock

They also spent time filming in Porlock, the quaint coastal village in Somerset. Closeby, you’ll find Porlock Weir, a picturesque hamlet of beautiful ancient cottages.
