What type of bra is best for large breasts?
There’s no such thing as one type of bra which will suit all bigger-busted ladies. Sorry to make things harder. And with 85% of women wearing the wrong bra size, according to lingerie brand, Dorina, the first way to find the best bra for big busts is to have a bra fitting to make sure the bra size you’re wearing is the right one. Once you know your correct size, we asked Alexandra Cracknell (senior designer at Dorina) the top tips to make bra shopping that little big easier – first up, the straps; “when looking for a bra designed for a larger bust, look for wide, adjustable straps which help distribute weight evenly and reduce any straining on the shoulder.” And when it comes to coverage, Cracknell advises, “full coverage cups also offer better support and prevent any spillage! A wide band will also ensure the bra stays in place and look for underwired styles, this provides structure support and offer a nice lift.”
How to shop for bras for large bust:
- Make sure you get fitted, because no bra will fit correctly – or feel comfy – if you buy a bra in the wrong size. The perfect bra is going to be the one that actually fits YOU, has back support, side support and feels as though you’re not even wearing one!
- Consider a full-coverage bra, where most of your breast tissue is contained. While plunge cup bras can work for some people, full-coverage bras are often more comfortable for those with large breasts.
- Invest in a bra which has wider straps – and make sure they’re fully adjustable so they’re not digging into your shoulders.
- Keep an eye out for a wider back band than you might find on smaller-cupped bras too, this will contribute to increased support. Considering the band serves up most of the lift, it should fit securely around your ribcage.
The best brands for bras for big busts:
Rihanna’s lingerie range Savage X Fenty has shaken up the underwear industry, promoting sexy yet comfortable underwear for all shapes and sizes. Let’s be honest: you can be sure anything Rihanna puts her name to will have inclusivity at its heart (case in point: the truly inclusive shade range in her Fenty Beauty makeup line), and Savage X Fenty is no exception. Not only do the pieces retail at an affordable price point, but they have sizes up to 42H, too. The Mosaic Floral Lace Unlined Demi Bra – one of our picks of the best bras for larger busts, below – proves that lower-cut lace cups can be supportive enough for D-cupped+ girls, thanks to its supportive straps and triple fastening back band.
Outside of Fenty land, there are plenty of other retailers championing women with big boobs, and working to release styles that look as great as the job they do. Want to know some of the other best brands for big busts? We’ve listed a few of our faves, below.
