The dust has settled on fashion month, and the winter shoe trends are in.
In our opinion, good shoes and a statement coat are the hack to winter dressing. You can get away with almost anything underneath if you nail these elements. After observing the street style from the recent fashion month, it seems like most fashion insiders were thinking the same thing. So, what winter shoe trends have popped up this year?
Of course, no winter shoe guide is complete without winter boots. There are a few varieties trending at the moment, which means you’re spoilt for choice. There’s also some inspo for festive party shoes, since winter brings with it many a holiday season celebration. And, we’ve thrown in some shoes for everyday wear – we’d love life to be a runway every day, but you need some practical options, too.
Your top winter shoe trends for 2025
Silver trainers
Rising in popularity season after season, silver trainers have been spotted on many a fashion pro. The fan-favourite Cecilie Bahnsen Asics are difficult to get your hands on, but luckily, many fashion brands have their own silver kicks, from luxury labels like Proenza Schouler and Margiela, to sportswear brands like Adidas and Nike.
Combat boots
In line with the trend for all things indie sleaze, combat boots have made their way back onto the scene. Mind you, they were never really out, since their practicality and versatility make them a staple whenever the cold weather comes around. But, right now, they feel particularly desirable as the culture swings to nostalgia for all things late ’00s indie music and early 2010s Tumblr.
Chunky shoes
Speaking of Tumblr, there’s been a return of the chunky-soled shoe, particularly in shades of black. Whether Doc Martens or Mary Janes, these shoes lend your outfit a cool edge without trying too hard. They’re also just practical: it’s no coincidence that Doc Martens started off as a utilitarian shoe for working men. Since they’re low-rise shoes, you can pair them with leg warmers for some extra flair and warmth.
Boho boots (jeans tucked in, optional)
Boho boots have taken over as one of the biggest shoe trends, naturally following on from the popularity of boho chic. What exactly is a boho boot, you ask? It’s anything that you could imagine ’00s Kate Moss and Sienna Miller wearing: slouchy boots, cowboy boots, or flat-soled boots in shades like brown or grey and materials like suede. If your boots are wide enough, try tucking your jeans in for an extra fashion-forward look.
A statement pointed pump
This one is more for the festive season parties, where you’re warm and toasty inside rather than facing the elements. A pointed pump in an eye-catching or clashing shade, particularly paired with sheer black tights, is a hack to looking on-trend at your holiday celebrations. Don’t be afraid to go strong with your colours: if the recent shows at Versace, Prada and Alaïa are anything to go by, vibrant hues and colour-blocking are in.
Block heel boots
While recently, fashion has been obsessed with the skinny stiletto heel, it feels like we’ve now entered the age of the block heel. (Thank god, our feet say!) They add sophistication to any outfit, elongate the leg and are perfect for the office and your evening drinks. Plus, a chunky heel is always more comfortable than a super-skinny one. What’s not to love?

Socks and a cute shoe
Very Miu Miu! This is another one that might be better saved for indoor events rather than trudging through the snow. Socks and heels are one of those things that you might have been taught are a complete fashion faux pas. But, they have a sort of preppy, nerdy charm that completely fits into Miuccia Prada’s style of awkward chic.
Miu Miu’s popularity is at an all-time high, so expect to see this influencing brands everywhere. Just what is a ‘cute shoe’? Very subjective, of course, but it could be a pointed kitten heel, a mule, even a stiletto. For a more librarian chic look, opt for a thicker sock. If you want to go sleeker, go for a nylon pair.
