Flower sandals are officially summer’s prettiest shoe trend

Flower sandals are one of those shoe styles that immediately grounds you in a season. Beyond just a regular sandal, which you could wear across spring and summer, there’s something about the flower sandal that is reserved for balmy destinations or beautiful wedding venues that make them feel like a holiday encapsulated in footwear.

As London enjoys a lovely streak of sunny days, and all our favourite fashion girlies are beginning to jet off on their enviable holidays (I’m not having FOMO, you are), we’re beginning to see the emergence of this particular floral footwear.

Flower sandals, which may have a Boho slant, were arguably popularised in the ‘90s. Think Carrie Bradshaw’s style in Sex and the City, when a borderline-kitschy style of fashion became mainstream and the lurid became luxe. Flower and butterfly clips after all, were also trending so why not flower sandals?

Beyond Gen-Z’s fascination with Noughties nostalgia, given the unpredictable state of our world, it’s only understandable that we’d be drawn to things that make us smile. And how could you not smile when you look down on your toes to find a whole bouquet staring back at you?

To style this OTT shoe, the most straightforward way would be to let them take the lead. Pair your flower sandals with a simple white beach dress and let your feet do the talking—your sandy holiday lewk sorted. But there’s a way to make them work in the city, too. Take a page out of the Scandi-girls’ playbook and wear your flower shoes with culottes or slinky dress with a blazer thrown over. The key, though, is to match the colour of your shoes to something else in the ‘fit.

Like the various different flower species, there are plenty of options within the trend too. Maybe you like tiny daisies sprinkled across a kitten heel or you’re a statement hibiscus sandal girlie. What’s clear is that this trend is not for shrinking violets.
