In the 2010s, the Victoria’s Secret fashion show was a staple of autumn/winter, effectively marking the beginning of the festive season. It wasn’t just a runway; it was a cultural event. Huge stars like Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga performed on the catwalk while models sashayed past them.

In 2019, it was cancelled, following transphobic and fatphobic comments from their then-Chief Marketing Officer, Ed Razek, who expressed unwillingness to cast trans and plus-size models. Since then, Rihanna’s label Savage x Fenty completely re-defined the meaning of a lingerie show, proudly featuring all types of bodies. In 2023, the VS show came back in documentary form with a more diverse ethos, though it wasn’t very well received.
Then, last year, the Victoria’s Secret runway officially came back. Alex Consani and Valentina Sampaio became the first trans models to walk for the brand, and plus-size models Ashley Graham and Paloma Elsesser stormed the runway, too.
