The denim jacket is a classic that returns season after season, with a guaranteed spot in our autumn wardrobes. Although it comes to life during the chillier months, the denim jacket is a trans-seasonal necessity, whether adding a structured edge to spring mini-dresses or a slouchy feel to an otherwise squeaky-clean corporate get-up.

Tracey Panek, a historian at Levi Strauss & Co., previously told Glamour, “By the ’50s, wearing denim was often associated with juvenile delinquency. Jeans were even banned in some schools, and denim became the nonconformists’ uniform of choice.”

Few garments boast such a wide range as the humble denim jacket; it brings together all factions of the fashion pack, consolidating itself as a generation-defying piece, whether your reference point is Lindsay Lohan in The Parent Trap – you know the one – or Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s double denim moment at the 2001 American Music Awards.
