I don’t know about you, but ever since I was a child, the first thing I would do when I got home from school was take off my uniform and slip into my comfy pyjamas. Decades later and it’s still a ritual of mine; whether I’ve spent the day in the office, an afternoon playing doting auntie, or been on a winter walk. My pyjama collection is eternally expanding, and right now, Christmas pyjamas take centre-stage.
There’s no denying that the festive sleepwear category – from pyjama sets to matching nightwear for the family (and your pets?), maternity nightwear, and cosy loungewear – has expanded rapidly over the decades. But as the options have evolved, so has our perception of it. Once upon a time, it was the ultimate fashion faux pas to be spotted in your Christmas pyjamas doing a last-minute supermarket dash for a midnight snack. Now, we actively style our Chrtistmas pyjama sets to wear out the house for daytime and evening events.
Take Sleeper’s Feather-Trimmed Crepe De Chine Pajama Set, for example. It sparked the feather-trim trend and encouraged us to wear our chic nightwear outside of the bedroom. Elsewhere, Damson Madder and TBCo have proven oversized Peter Pan collars to not just a style of shirt to wear to the office.
Some of the best pyjamas this Christmas (and every Yuletide for that matter) are typically red colour-block designs, or tartan and fair isle prints. While they are still in demand, we’ve also spotted candy cane-inspired pyjamas, feather and ruffle frill hems in abundance, and PJs laden with bows. As for fabric? Cotton remains popular – it’s soft against the skin and breathable – but luxury Christmas pyjamas crafted from satin textures and plush velvet fabrics are fast replacing our party dress collection to take us from “bus, club, another club” and then to bed.
Whether you are preparing to spend the whole of December in your Christmas pyjamas, or you’re swapping your cushioned slippers for a pair of kitten heels or pointed-toe stilettos to team with your pyjamas for a night out, there is a vast selection of Christmas pyjamas to buy now and wear for months to come.
