The British Royal Family gathered to celebrate the Christening of Princess Eugenie of York at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham on this day in 1990, 35 years ago, a few days before Christmas.

Princess Eugenie of York, the younger daughter of the then Prince Andrew and Duchess of York, was christened at the St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, followed by a Reception at Sandringham House, just a few days before Christmas. The Christening was also featured in the the 1992 documentary “Elizabeth R”.

Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen Mother, Princess of Wales, Prince Edward, Princess Margaret and assorted children were among the members of the Royal Family who attended.

Princess Eugenie’s godparents are James Ogilvy (second cousin), Captain Alastair Ross, Susan Ferguson (step-grandmother), Julia Dodd-Noble, and Louise Blacker.

LP Staff Writers

Writers at Lord’s Press come from a range of professional backgrounds, including history, diplomacy, heraldry, and public administration. Many publish anonymously or under initials—a practice that reflects the publication’s long-standing emphasis on discretion and editorial objectivity. While they bring expertise in European nobility, protocol, and archival research, their role is not to opine, but to document. Their focus remains on accuracy, historical integrity, and the preservation of events and individuals whose significance might otherwise go unrecorded.
