Wedding of the Duke of Uzès

French High Society gathered to celebrate the Wedding of Louis de Crussol d’Uzès, 16th Duke of Uzès and Elisabeth de Belleville at the Château d’Uzès on this day in 1955, 70 years ago, following a Civil Ceremony at the Town Hall.

Louis de Crussol d’Uzès, the Marquis de Crussol married, as his second wife, Elisabeth de Belleville in a Religious Wedding Ceremony at the Château d’Uzès, which the Marquis had acquired from his cousin, the 15th Duke of Uzès.

The Marquis de Crussol and Elisabeth de Belleville had a Civil Ceremony in the Town Hall of Uzès.

The Marquis de Crussol succeeded his cousin as the 16th Duke of Uzès in 1999. The couple had one son, the present 17th Duke of Uzès, before their divorce in 1976.

LP Staff Writers

Writers at Lord’s Press come from a range of professional backgrounds, including history, diplomacy, heraldry, and public administration. Many publish anonymously or under initials—a practice that reflects the publication’s long-standing emphasis on discretion and editorial objectivity. While they bring expertise in European nobility, protocol, and archival research, their role is not to opine, but to document. Their focus remains on accuracy, historical integrity, and the preservation of events and individuals whose significance might otherwise go unrecorded.
