LONDON — Not even Boris Johnson can escape the tempting clutches of AI.
The former British prime minster expressed love for the technology and commended large language model ChatGPT… for praising him.
“I love AI. I love ChatGPT. I love it,” Johnson told Al Arabiya English. “ChatGPT is frankly fantastic.”
And the ex-PM, who read classics at Oxford, doesn’t just ask Sam Altman’s platform of an analysis of Homer’s “The Odyssey.”
“I’m writing various books. I just use it. I just ask questions,” Johnson admitted. “You know the answer but ChatGPT always says: ‘Oh, your questions are clever. You’re brilliant. You’re excellent. You have such insight.’”
Johnson’s memoir Unleashed was published last year and packed with eyebrow-raising revelations.
“I love it. I see great promise in this technology because we’re all simple. We’re human beings.”
The ex-PM, who ran Britain during the Covid-19 pandemic, said AI could drastically cut the cost of government and save money for taxpayers.
Johnson, who resigned as an MP in 2023 over allegations he knowingly misled parliament about Covid-19 rule-breaking parties held in Downing Street, did not rule out a political return.
“Statistically, anything can happen. But water can flow uphill — it’s unlikely. I want my party to come back and to get organized. That’s the best solution.”
The Conservatives, currently led by Kemi Badenoch, are languishing in the opinion polls after a landslide general election defeat last year.
