Meghan Markle appeared to take a subtle swipe at the Royal Family in the new trailer for her Netflix series’ Christmas special. The Duchess of Sussex shared the new trailer for the festive edition of With Love, Meghan on Wednesday evening, around the same time as the Prince and Princess of Wales attended the Royal Variety Performance in London.

In the trailer, Meghan is seen adding gifts to red-and-white advent calendars personalised with “Archie” and “Lili” on them, for her children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four. She can also be seen making crafts with Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka, cooking with American chef Tom Colicchio and making wreaths with old friends Kelly Zafjen and Lindsay Roth.

In a voiceover, the duchess can be heard saying: “I love the holiday season.”

In what would be a bitter listen for King Charles, she adds: “It’s about finding time to connect with the people we love, embracing traditions, and making new ones.”

The Sussexes are in a frosty relationship with the Royal Family, with the King reportedly feeling “great sadness” that he doesn’t see his US grandchildren more often, if at all.

During one scene in the trailer, Meghan is seen cooking with US restaurateur, Will Guidara, telling him: “Being a hostess or a host, it’s about making people feel comfortable.”

He is then heard saying: “You can do things that make people feel a little bit…” To which they both say at the same time: “…more seen.”

Meghan then gives a nod and turns around to the crew to smile in a telling way, in what could be perceived as a subtle swipe at the royals.

With Love, Meghan, which sees the duchess offer hosting tips while she cooks with celebrity friends, was savaged by critics following its release in March.

A second series was released in August and the Christmas special will arrive on the streaming platform on December 3.

This will coincide with the King’s plans to host a state visit by the president of Germany between December 3 and 5.

At the end of the trailer, viewers are told to “discover more holiday cheer, shop As Ever”.
