Meghan popularity reaches lowest point to date

In an interview at the beginning of this month, Prince Harry took part in an emotional interview with the BBC about his desire for reconciliation with the rest of the royal family.

The Duke of Sussex might also hope for a reconciliation with the wider British public, with whom he continues to have a poor relationship. The latest YouGov royal favourability tracker poll finds that only 27% of Britons have a positive opinion of Prince Harry, with 63% having a negative view of him, his worst score since early 2023.

Harry’s wife Meghan likewise continues to score poorly among the public, with only 20% having a positive opinion of her while 65% hold a negative view. While these differ only a little from the February survey, the one in five with a positive view of the Duchess of Sussex is the lowest YouGov has recorded since we started tracking her popularity in 2017.

Attitudes towards the Sussexes continue to differ greatly between the generations – while 18-24 year olds are split on the pair, they are very widely disliked by the oldest Britons, with 81-86% having an unfavourable view of them.

Prince William and wife Catherine, by contrast, top the list of royals, with 75% of Britons having a positive opinion of the Prince of Wales and 72% likewise for his spouse.

When it comes to King Charles III, 61% of Britons have a positive view of the current monarch, compared to 29% with an unfavourable view. This latter figure represents a five point drop since February.

The generations are again divided on the King, with only 43% of 18-24 year olds having a positive opinion of Charles III, but rising to fully 77% of the over-65s.
