Diplomatic Banquet at the Royal Palace of Oslo

The Norwegian Royal Family joined King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway as they hosted the Gala Dinner for the Diplomatic Corps at the Royal Palace of Oslo on January 29th, which follows the Gala Dinner for Members of the Norwegian Parliament (Stortingsmiddag) and the Gala Dinner for the Bishops of the Church of Norway.

King Harald V and Queen Sonja were joined by Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Astrid as they the processed through the Speilsalen, Small Dining Room, Small Ballroom, and the Great Ballroom into the Banqueting Hall, for the Banquet. This Dinner is hosted alternatingly at the Royal Palace, on the Royal Yacht Norge or at Oscarshall Palace.

There were around 150 guests at the gala dinner. Members of the Norwegian government were also on the guest list for the annual event.

During the dinner, the King sat next to, among others, Denmark’s ambassador to Norway, Louise Bang Jespersen.

The diplomatic dinner has been a tradition since the time of King Haakon and Queen Maud.

Queen Sonja wore Queen Maud’s Pearl Tiara, Pearl Necklace and Earrings, Drapers’ Company Brooch and the Sash & Star of the Order of St. Olav with King Harald’s Family Order

Princess Astrid wore Queen Alexandra’s Turquoise Circlet and the Sash & Star of the Order of St. Olav with Family Orders of King Haakon, King Olav, and King Harald.
