The Grand Ducal Court of Luxembourg has shared the Official Portraits of Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stephanie of Luxembourg ahead of the Accession of Grand Duke Guillaume tomorrow, upon the Abdication of Grand Duke Henri.
On the occasion of the change of reign on 3 October 2025, the Maison du Grand-Duc commissioned three painted portraits of the future Head of State, in keeping with tradition.
The creation of these works was entrusted to three artists: Luxembourgish painter Roland Schauls, as well as the British portraitists Louise Pragnell and Andrew Gow. Louise Pragnell also painted the portrait of the future Grand Duchess, completing the ensemble.
Three of the portraits will join the official collection at the Grand Ducal Palace, where they will be on display, while a portrait of the future Grand Duke Guillaume will be placed in the plenary hall of the Chamber of Deputies.
Once the series is complete, the works will be unveiled and open to the public in January 2026 at the Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart (MNAHA).
The official portraits of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa were created by the Spanish artist Ricardo Macarrón (1926–2004).
Grand Duke Guillaume is wearing a dark blue parade uniform, with the Order of the Gold Lion of the House of Nassau.
Grand Duchess Stephanie is wearing the Belgian Scroll Tiara with the Earrings and Bracelet of the Aquamarine Parure, an Art Deco Pearl and Diamond Brooch and the Order of the Gold Lion of the House of Nassau for the first time.
