Happy Birthday to Queen Rania of Jordan, who turns 55 today! The accomplished Palestinian who married a Jordanian Prince and unexpectedly became the influential Queen of the Middle Eastern Monarch, Queen Rania now usually wears the striking Arabic Script Tiara!
Set with about 1,300 diamonds, including seven drop stones, topped by a large pear-shaped diamond weighing 20 carats, this striking Tiara is composed in scrolls of Arabic script from the Quran, saying: “Greatness for Allah”.
The Tiara was ordered by King Abdullah II of Jordan from Yan Sicard of FRED in 2005, whose son shared pictures of the tiara while it was being created.
Queen Rania first wore her Arabic Script Tiara for the State Banquet hosted by the Dutch Royal Family at the Noordeinde Palace during the Jordanian State Visit to the Netherlands in 2006.
Queen Rania wore the Arabic Script Tiara only one other time, when she was photographed by Mario Testino for the September 2008 issue of Vanity Fair, Spain.
Queen Rania wore the Arabic Script Tiara for the spectacular Banquet to celebrate the Wedding of Crown Prince Al Hussein and Princess Rajwa at the Al Husseiniya Palace in Amman.
It appears that Queen Rania had the central element of the Tiara altered to lower and remove some of the central scrolls and diamonds at some point over the preceding two decades.
In 2024, Queen Rania of Jordan wore the Arabic Script Tiara in the Official Portrait released by the Hashemite Royal Court to celebrate their Silver Jubilee.
More recently, Queen Rania wore the Arabic Script Tiara for King Abdullah’s Silver Jubilee Parade in Amman, alongside a series of Official Portraits released late last year. There is no doubt we will continue to see the Tiara worn for years to come!
