The Princess Royal celebrates her 75th Birthday tomorrow! The only daughter of the late Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, and one of the most hardworking members of the family, Princess Anne has amassed quite a large jewellery collection, and also worn some mysterious jewels like the Queen Mother’s Double Meander Tiara!
A magnificent Diamond Tiara of two rows of looped Diamond Meanders, topped by a magnificent Diamond Aigrette with two large Diamonds, as well as an osprey feather, which was created in the late 1800s.
The origin of the Double Meander Tiara is unknown, but is believed to have been among the jewels inherited by the Queen Mother from Dame Margaret Greville, the Hon Mrs Greville in 1942.
In 1961, the Queen Mother loaned the Double Meander Tiara for a Modern Jewellery Exhibition at the Goldsmith’s Hall in London, which was its main public appearance.
At a Chinese State Banquet in 2005, Princess Anne wore a mystery Diamond Tiara, which seems to be the Queen Mother’s Double Meander Tiara.
It is not known if Princess Anne inherited the Tiara from the Queen Mother, or if it was a loan from the Queen’s collection. Let’s hope the Double Meander Tiara will appear again soon!
The Royal Family has shared a new Official Portrait of the Princess Royal and Sir Timothy Laurence ahead of her 75th Birthday next week, which was taken by Getty Images Photographer Chris Jackson ahead of the State Banquet held by the British Royal Family for French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron at Windsor Castle last month.
The Princess Royal wore her Diamond Festoon Tiara, with her Diamond Festoon Necklace, and Diamond Bow Brooch along with the Sash and Star of the Order of the Garter, the Royal Family Order of King Charles III, and the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II.
